The songs from Candice Russell’s first album So Much More have been played to millions around the world on radio. Candice went to Hollywood on American Idol, season 11 and she is an award winning songwriter (The International Songwriting Competition). She has just released her second project, an EP entitled Ignite. It was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with number one hit songwriter and producer Kenny Lamb (Justin Timberlake, NSYNC, Jason Aldean) and engineer Chris Rowe (Taylor Swift, Keith Urban). Be on the lookout for even greater things coming from this young and talented artist.
Candice’s debut album So Much More was released in late summer of 2013. She reached number one in the top songs category on Indiecharts.com with the song Good Luck With That. She has been featured several times on VideoStar, a top ten iTunes app with over four million subscribers. Candice was recently featured on the #1 weekly syndicated dance countdown show, Al Walser's Weekly Top 20, at number five on the chart with her song So Much More. This top 20 countdown show is currently broadcast on over 80 radio stations worldwide and boasts over 12 million listeners. Since then, Candice has been featured on Reverbnation multiple times. The music video of her original song, So Much More was recently the first place winner on the Coast 2 Coast Live Music Video Showcase. It has also been featured on Bongo Boy’s broadcast on NBC and Comcast cable stations in most major cities across the U.S. Her duet Loved By You was a winner in the 2013-2014 International Songwriting Competition (19,500 entries). Candice’s music can be heard in restaurants and retail outlets across the U.S. (DMX Mood Media) and the U.K. (NOMA).
Candice’s seemingly effortless, rich, pure vocal tone, her smooth vocal runs and the passion that comes through in her voice, make for a great listening experience. As one label executive said, “She is very easy on the ears.” Another has said, “The lilt in Candice’s voice makes her special.”
Candice’s songwriting is real, honest, and vulnerable, yet she is positive, determined and confident. She knows who she is, but she doesn’t see herself as above others. She sings, writes and performs to make others feel good about themselves, not to make others feel good about her. “I want to reach people with music that I have written and hopefully uplift and help them,” she says. All of the songs on this new album are original and from the context of her own real life experiences.
The artists who have impacted Candice musically are Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Paramore, Katy Perry, Colbie Caillat and Carrie Underwood. The combination of these artists and what she has learned from her personal mentors and coaches has helped Candice find a unique blend that has resulted in her own cool and appealing sound.
Soon after her time on American Idol, Candice met Dave Lubben, who is a veteran artist, songwriter and producer in Portland, Oregon. Among his many credits is producing the band Kutless. Candice collaborated with Dave Lubben and her brother, Aaron Russell (who also assisted in production), to write all ten of the original songs on her first project. The album, So Much More, was recorded using top studio musicians from Los Angeles, Nashville and Portland. The results have yielded a high quality, radio ready-album.
Candice has been recognized for her excellent songwriting skills with several awards and achievements, the greatest being her recent victory in the 2013-2014 International Songwriting Competition where there were over 19,500 entries and her song Loved by You was one of the winners, taking third place. Twice she has been the winner of the Songwriter of the Month Contest for SongwriterUniverse, which is a highly respected music industry website. She was one of only a few to win a spot in the showcase at the AMTC Shine event in 2012 in the songwriters category. As a teenager Candice was the top winner in the Oregon Fine Arts Festival in songwriting, as well as the vocal competitions. She is a serious singer and songwriter who has a trail of successes to show that she is seriously good at both.
Candice’s ability to transfer what is in her heart into art flowing through her fingers to the guitar and resonating through her voice to release flawless, passionate vocals is not at all typical. The lyrics on her album are thoughtful and deep, but also smart, witty and just plain fun at times. All this makes her an extremely intriguing artist to listen to and follow.
